Heat Treatment

CARBOLITE GERO offers modern solutions for debinding and sintering of ceramic parts.

Carbolite Gero manufactures a High Temperature Furnace (HTF) which reaches 1800 °C for performance applications. With a specially developed debinding solution, this furnace is perfect for debinding and sintering oxide ceramics in air in a single furnace.

Our HB ‘Top Hat’ Furnace can be used in the same temperature range. The automatic vertically lifting hood allows easy sample access and handling from three sides. If the debinding process takes place in a separate furnace, then CARBOLITE GERO's catalytic or thermal debinding furnaces such as the EBO or GLO are the ideal choice.

Our solutions portfolio also includes tried and tested products for non-oxide ceramics and silicate ceramics. For further information please contact us.

Elemental Analysis

ELTRA develops combustion analyzers for precise and sensitive C|S and O|N|H determination in solids as well as thermogravimetric analyzers.

Combustion analyzers and thermogravimetric analyzers are powerful tools to characterize the quality of ceramic products. Typical examples for quality control of ceramics are the determination of free, bound and total carbon content in silicon carbide and silicon carbide products, or nitrogen determination in nitride based ceramics like BN or Si3N4. Typical thermogravimetric analyses comprise the measurement of the moisture content or loss of ignition in every kind of ceramic powder.

Analyzers like ELTRA’s ELEMENTRAC CS-i or ELEMENTRAC ONH-p deliver reliable results within a few minutes. Themogravimetric analyzers like the TGA Thermostep are easy to use and measure several parameters (moisture, LOI) in up to 19 different samples fully automatically.

Materialography

QATM manufactures machines for materialography (metallography) used in quality control processes.

Ceramic parts require thorough testing, especially in the medical sector. QATM’s wide range of high-quality machines for cutting, mounting, and grinding/polishing allows for perfect surface preparation as a prerequisite for reliable microstructural analysis.

Thanks to automated solutions, such as the innovative cut-off machine Brillant 220, sample preparation is convenient and reproducible. The new Saphir 250A1-ECO grinder/polisher is ideally suited to obtain optimum preparation results thanks to innovative features and robust design.

Hardness Testing

QATM also specializes in the development and manufacture of innovative hardness testing machines.

Unlike applications with steel and non-ferrous metals, hardness testing of ceramic materials is a challenging task for any hardness tester. High hardness values and low fracture toughness are typical characteristics of technical ceramics. Thanks to advanced high-quality optic systems and unique versatility QATM hardness testers make routine hardness testing of ceramics easy and convenient for the user.

QATM Q10/30/60 hardness testers are available as semi- or fully automatic versions. They are perfectly suited for hardness testing of ceramic materials, covering the lower test force range between 0.25 g and 62.5 kg

The Q150 A hardness tester is an ultra-robust, yet compact, fully automatic tester which can be used for ceramics testing combined with application methods for the higher test force range between 1 kg and 250 kg.

Milling & Sieving

RETSCH provides size reduction and sieving equipment designed for sample preparation and characterization of solids.

Raw materials, green bodies and sintered products need to be analyzed with regards to their mineralogical and chemical composition as well as to their structural properties to optimize the ceramic production process.

At each stage, samples must be taken, processed and analyzed to ensure quality control without gaps. RETSCH offers a range of instruments suitable for sample preparation.

Particle Analysis

Microtrac MRB manufactures innovative optical measurement systems for particle characterization of powders, granules, and suspensions.

The image analyzers CAMSIZER M1, CAMSIZER X2 and CAMSIZER P4 cover a size range from 0,5 µm to 30 mm. Short analysis time and easy handling make the analyzers of the CAMSIZER series suitable for quality control and routine tasks. Measurement results obtained by static or dynamic image analysis are superior to laser diffraction analysis in terms of accuracy, sensitivity and information content.
